Science, its a game, right?
« on: 07/01/2010 12:12:51 »
We've had a few games here (word game, Freudian word link) which rather tend to go around in circles and just aren't 'science'. So how about this one:

The Confounded Compound Game.

Here's how it works. I will give you a chemical compound, each post must change, add or subtract one element (or group of elements) to come up with a new compound at each step, but you must try not repeat a compound which has been used before.

Example:

  • Sodium chloride
  • Calcium chloride
  • Calcium hydroxide
  • Potassium hydroxide
  • Potassium nitrate
  • Potassium manganate
  • Potassium permanganate
  • Ammonium permanganate

Try to keep it relatively simple (as above) or it might get a tad difficult to come up with something, you just try changing one element (or group) out of this lot to arrive at a new compund: TETRAMETHYLDIAMINOBENZHYDRYLPHOSPHINOUS!!!

OK, so here's the start point and two follow ons:-

  • Silver Nitrate
  • Silver chloride
  • Magnesium chloride

Who's going to give the next compound?

Take it away Naked Scientists......
If brains were made of dynamite, I wouldn't have enough to blow my nose.

You seem to have changed both "ends" of the compound.

Perhaps JimBob's secretary is on holiday, he had a spot of bother spelling Hydrgen peroxide.

Or even Hydrogen peroxide, or perhaps he was continuing from the Gold chloride.

That'll teach me to post too late in the day after long hard day's work.
