I'm interested in which way (if any) you prefer to sit when travelling on a train .

I have a definite preferred way but I want to know yours.

i am definitely open to anyway.. really.. Some people get sick sideways and backwards but it doesn't bother me one way or the other. But I do like train travel!

They're messing with you. Bet they claim they don't mind walking under a ladder either, but they never actually do it. Not to mention avoiding cracks in the pavement.

I always walk under ladders when ever I can...I've seen people almost get run over when they've walked into the road to avoid walking beneath a ladder. Walking under ladders upon cracked pavement holding a black cat whilst smashing a mirror is my latest hobby.

Well, I just want to thank the 9 (including me) who voted....I am so overwhelmed by the stats that I had to hire JAGUAR to recount the numbers for me. I am actually surprised that I am in the minority..(in that I prefer to face forward)..I wonder what the science behind all this is ?

Oops, sorry. Late vote. Has polling closed?

I prefer facing forward. It is safer to face the other way (in the event of a crash) but I tried that when driving my car and it didn't work out very well.

I like to look out (it doesn't matter if you just want to read) and seeing what is approaching and the following the view as it passes is more natural. Facing back means that objects of potential interest suddenly appear and you can't anticipate and think about whether they are of interest in time to actually observe them whilst they are still close. It's not good if you are prone to travel sickness either.

Thanks Graham...no..not late at all..the poll remains open ...........I agree with all the things ewe say above....in addition...with me...I just prefer the  "feel" of moving forward.

I like it in any position as long as I'm not with a nutter. I had a lady trying to show me her husbands ashes once and a man who continued to fart and laugh throughout the journey. I've been on trains with over friendly drunks, a sleeping man with his willy hanging out of his shorts and girls discussing sex very, very loudly...in the silent section of the train. So a seat with nice people, who don't mind a chat but aren't really strange is my favorite position to be in. I do quite like a table seat too.
My best journey was when I bumped into a friend with a bottle of port. That was a very jolly time.
I lived in Japan and yes the trains are always on time. I have had to put my arms in the air to allow more people to fit in the carriage. The down side of squashed trains in Japan is that men take advantage and rub up and down on you. I was told to shout pervert in Japanese, very loudly. The only time I did this, I turned around and realised it was the mans mini umbrella that was pressed up agaist me. We both went red.

I'm a fan of sitting backwards, but yeah I won't do it no matter what if there's some weirdo facing the other way and I can get a seat by myself!

Unless it is a Virgin cross country train because the toilets on those really smell. Perhaps it is the left overs from Geezer getting scared when the guard knocks on the door.

(Translating for Eric's benefit - With my ass pointing at the railroad ties.)

Woops! Sorry. I just realized I misread the title of this topic. I thought it said "Which way do you prefer to sh*t?"
