They're messing with you. Bet they claim they don't mind walking under a ladder either, but they never actually do it. Not to mention avoiding cracks in the pavement.
Oops, sorry. Late vote. Has polling closed?I prefer facing forward. It is safer to face the other way (in the event of a crash) but I tried that when driving my car and it didn't work out very well. I like to look out (it doesn't matter if you just want to read) and seeing what is approaching and the following the view as it passes is more natural. Facing back means that objects of potential interest suddenly appear and you can't anticipate and think about whether they are of interest in time to actually observe them whilst they are still close. It's not good if you are prone to travel sickness either.
I like it in any position as long as I'm not with a nutter. I had a lady trying to show me her husbands ashes once and a man who continued to fart and laugh throughout the journey. I've been on trains with over friendly drunks, a sleeping man with his willy hanging out of his shorts and girls discussing sex very, very loudly...in the silent section of the train. So a seat with nice people, who don't mind a chat but aren't really strange is my favorite position to be in. I do quite like a table seat too.My best journey was when I bumped into a friend with a bottle of port. That was a very jolly time.I lived in Japan and yes the trains are always on time. I have had to put my arms in the air to allow more people to fit in the carriage. The down side of squashed trains in Japan is that men take advantage and rub up and down on you. I was told to shout pervert in Japanese, very loudly. The only time I did this, I turned around and realised it was the mans mini umbrella that was pressed up agaist me. We both went red.
I prefer to sit in the toilet to avoid the ticket collector.
