rob van valen  asked the Naked Scientists:
hello naked scientists,

love the show.

Is it possible to grow a lawn of Wheat Grass around a house instead of the standard grass or is it too sensitive to survive daily exposure in the right environment?

manhattan, nyc, u.s.a.

What do you think?

Might grow a little high, and will not be terribly happy if you walk on it.

We did give a coworker at a previous job a lovely surprise for his holidays, we fertilised his lawn with 232 fertiliser and put a sprinkler on it for a month ( fed from a borehole so no worry about water just the power needed to drive pump). On his return his "lawn" was nearly a metre high, thick and verdant, and could only be cut using a tractor mower. He did curse us for 6 months, as he had to mow twice a week, but won the prize for best lawn!

It really depends where you live.  Sorry if someone has already said that but the computer's low on juice so i don't have time to read all of the posts.
