Getting too much sun on your neck will get you a sunburned neck.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges (the protective membrane that covers the brain and spinal cord.) It can be caused by any of the things that can cause inflammation and infection anywhere else in the body (viral, bacterial and, sometimes, certain drugs)

One of the symptoms is a 'stiff neck'...  but tell her if she is really worried to wear a broad brimmed hat.

We all know how mother in laws are? If So, remember to Play it smart.
Never correct her, permit her to be the one. You can pick your wife but not your inlaws.
Get her a chilled bottle of he favorite beverage leave it on ice, good cover for her neck, and feed her a line that will make her sleep.
