When I'm reading dfkjs a book or typing on the computer, sjgjhh  why does the cat swglh insist on getting on my lap, or laying kdasfjf on the keyboard?

years ago there was a study on cats that annoy you when you are on the phone. The conclusion was that because they can't see the other person you are talking to they assume you are talking to them...

I do have a theory on why cats like to sit on what you're reading. They see you looking at something with great concentration. They can't in any way comprehend what you're doing and this annoys them.

The cat I'm speaking of, and who "helped" me with this post belongs to a friend, who's son I help with his homework. The cat was badly injured two years ago and lost his right rear leg and tail. He loves to be scratched under his right ear which he can no longer do himself. He ALWAYS comes to me for a scratch when he sees me.

This cat apparently needs a hearing aid too : it was run over by a combine harvester.

If I am ignored or scolded, I will sneak at night, in the darkest, most used room, open all the cabinet doors at human foot level, where it is never suspected.

Then I wait, until; YEOW, when I hear my name yelled out in vain, I trot to my unknown hidding spot, sit and laugh for a couple of hours. I can break 10 toes in a week if needed. They never CATch on.

This cat was smart and talked back, fighting over who is to occupy the recliner.
I tell him to get off and he just blurps a low tone meow, that can be interpreted as an "UP Yours" response and does not move. This can go on for a minute or two.
I am sincerely sorry to say, he resently passed on... I enjoyed the litle guy, even though I limp a little.

If I wanted to teach a cat to sit on my book I would sit there reading and whenever the cat came and sat on the book I would pet it and tickle it behind the ears because I know cats like this. The cat would soon learn- they are not stupid.

May be so or it is a similar orientation of our posture of sitting, petting the cat or reading.

I know one thing. I did not teach my cat to open up the particular cabinet doors in the early morning hours. The particular part is that the opened edge was always into my walkway.
When smacked, the door did not swing, which maximized the impact. That is not trainable.
If it was, its was not on purpose.
