Shouldn't Still Exist
« on: 08/11/2010 06:42:13 »
Hi everyone.  I'm a writer, amateur comedian, philosopher, and have always had a great interest in science and skepticism.  Recently I started writing articles for a site entitled "Things that Shouldn't Still Exist."  My most recent article is on hatred towards science (which seriously has no right still existing-- particularly in developed nations).  Anyhow, I'm always looking for more topics to write about, so if anyone has suggestions, let me know.  So far, I've also covered:  Racism, Ghost Hunting, Square Dancing, and Circumcision.  The site is an odd mix of philosophy and humor (which is necessary when you're an analytical thinker in a world of dubious, frustrating cultural norms).

May rational thought save my sanity.

Jason

Since we don't like people opening multiple threads on the same subject, this thread shouldn't exist.
Ironic isn't it?

And we also don't like people post purely to promote their own websites...so I whole-heartedly agreed with BC.

Sorry.  I'm here for topic suggestions.  I am new to forums and thought that posting in spots that were applicable and where people would be interested would be fine.  Thanks for your sarcastic handling of the situation and please accept my apology for crossing forum etiquette.  If you don't want my site linked, fine, but I would still appreciate anything anyone has to say/suggest.

Was there sarcasm?

A sarcastic comment would be more like, "Don't you have a dictionary?"

Sometimes sarcasm can be felt by people that can feel.
Like finger nails across a chalk board
Have no clue if it was applied here or not, don't have a feel for it.

floor13avenger maybe I can fulfill your request?
subject: How to get a third person introduction in a room full of strangers?

There is a scientific subject to write about, it may cover areas of Comedy, philosophy and skepticism, just to name a few.
You might even apply parts of what you all ready wrote about Racism, Ghost Hunting, Square Dancing, and Circumcision. I am not sure the last one may apply maybe something close to it if it were a do all end all sighting

What bored chemist said was sarcasm.  I think you may be under the wrong impression of what sarcasm means.  I would post a link to a dictionary entry, but then I might get chided even more and proclaimed to be working for said dictionary website.  :)

I don't think so. Bored Chemist was quite direct. Sarcasm is a low form of humour. I didn't detect any humour in his statement.

I guess that someone who has no sense of humor whatsoever could take what he said without seeing the overly apparent sarcasm; thus, I guess you're right.  No need to discuss it further; you win.  Now if anyone would like to comment on the actual topic....

I am just a Joe Shmo here, when I am corrected on a subject, I learned from these people here to ask more, if I do not understand and I am learning to pick phrases to input to search engines.
Then some will give me feedback if i am right or wrong and sometimes non if I hit it correctly.

Mama mia della rosa, shame on you, where is your etiquette.
Time for a re chill Floor13avenger

I was able to hunt down your site and it is quite robust, you definitly have taken advantage of the Freedom of Speech.

I was also able to follow your foot prints to other forums
I see a testing of reactions that hit home, when I was in my early school years I was wondering all the time why... I see it following you.

I have nothing against a little razz in gist, but you should be smoother and reduce the gang busting.
What you ask for in your topic, is for suggestions, which can be dug up anywhere on the net.
You need not have to interface with anyone. Just Stop look and listen.
Be original try holding the chill longer and be nice to people!

For amusement value I'm going to cite his web page.
http://www.davidicke.com/
That doesn't mean I believe any of it.

Anyway I think I was using Irony rather than sarcasm.
While the plugging his own website bit is a breach of policy I think the basic idea is interesting (at least it's not another "Free energy" or "Go exists because I believe in Him!" thread. It just amused me that his posting about things that shouldn't exist shouldn't exist.
I'm even more amused that, because this is the version with replies, it's the legitimate version so it's the one which should exist.

bored chemist, pointing out irony can be sarcasm; they are not always exclusive of one another.

maffsolo, thanks for the suggestions, but my style of humor isn't smooth and polite.  I respect that you may not like it, but that doesn't invalidate it, nor my arguments.

Thus far, Don_1 has given me the best feedback when he suggested that I wouldn't be able to find humor on this forum.  I look forward to someone proving him wrong.

I know I did not follow his act to often, I stumbled over this that brough back memories.
We first realized his existance when he had impressed us in the later 60's

Al Sleet, the "hippie-dippie weatherman"—"Tonight's forecast: Dark. Continued dark throughout most of the evening, with some widely scattered light towards morning."

His presentation how he pronounced the phrase, "hippie-dippie weatherman", in a sequence, multiple times, emphasizing it in different ways.
It was a hit for months...
