i once wrote this in some topic about global warming, but it fits here too :)

Beavers are not necessarily harmful. In fact, many land managers and ranchers are now reintroducing beavers for stream restoration work. Beaver dams slow stream erosion, raise water tables, and filter pollutants and sediments - critical during times of mud slides and ash flows.

'Jurassic beaver' found in China

The discovery of a beaver-like fossil that lived when the dinosaurs ruled the Earth could challenge some currently accepted ideas on mammal evolution.

Castorocauda lutrasimilis, which was unearthed in China, is a species previously unknown to science.

It dates back to 164 million years ago, a time when mammals were thought to be primitive creatures confined to land.

But this animal was adapted to life in water, meaning scientists may now have to rethink their theories. ""

See? Beavers are the highest-evolved creatures on the planet. It was us who kicked sh*t out of the dinosaurs & made way for humanids. We taught you all you know about woodwork too! [:D]

Oh, and TUT at the Rooney joke.

...we need to spend billions on trying to save the north pole...

Why? It's cold & wet, there are no decent pubs there, no shops, it's not the most popular of tourist destinations & it's further north than Scotland! And polar bears eat people.

The south pole is far superior. There are shops, restaurants, bars and fwuffy wickle pingwings.
