Does ice reflect radiation from the Sun?

Does this also mean that the loss of ice will increase in radiation and Global Warming? Thanks!

Does ice reflect radiation from the Sun?
Most of the ice is at high latitude, where the amount of solar energy is rather low ( 2kW per square at the equator is a lot less when the surface is close to normal to the incident light) and most of the energy is likely to be reflected from the water in most cases. Also remember that the sea there is in darkness for at least 6 months at a time, which will allow the water to radiate out heat into space, and regrow the ice cover.

the only entity that I am aware of that doesnt reflect radiation is a black hole

perhaps there are others

(see also black body radiation, emmissivity etc)

Loss of ice and cloud cover are both factors that increase the percentage of the energy from the sun that is absorbed by the earth.  the reverse is also true once ice and clouds persist this acts as global cooling
