Music -v- kilo watts
« on: 26/02/2006 17:50:28 »
An empty factory next to ours was taken over by one of those
iilegal gatherings, and i can say the music was LOUD, the base
rattled things off the wall, we were told that the amps put
out 13.5 kWs and the speakers about a meter across, what would that
be in decibels?

I can't tell you what the decibels would be except that it would be enough to damage your hearing after prolonged exposure.

I am not surprised the amps were that large and the speakers were most definitely of the Marshall type PA speakers.

daveshorts here is excellent at working things like this out...of course just saying the speakers were a meter across is very little to go on...the sensitivity and impedence would have been very useful...lets hope we get a good guestimation !

I don't envy you your situation though...you should have gate-crashed and larged it ' factory style !!'

13.5 kWs isnt actually very much when it comes to music .I have been to raves pumping out more than 300k which still remained within the law regarding sound in a built up areas.
In my younger days my system in my car was 1.5k and if i turned it up full and set it to the right frequencies it was louder than concorde.
I dont think you cant determine the decibels output from the power of the system.  50 db of Sub bass for instance requires lots more power to produce than 50 db mid bass but the sub base however travels better through walls and so can be heard furthr away.
