Can you tell age from finger nails?

My finger nails seem to show a certain pattern associated with their growth. Is there some sort of "time stamp" in the pattern just as there is a time stamp in the growth rings of trees?
There ain'ta no sanity clause, and there ain'ta no centrifugal force Šther.

"Longitudinal ridging ... aging" ... http://www.dermnetnz.org/common/image.php?path=/hair-nails-sweat/img/ridge-n.jpg

As we mature, the nail bed produces less oil and moisture,
and this rail and groove effect becomes evident as vertical [longitudinal] ridges in the plate.
