Darryl Witz asked the Naked Scientists:
Dear Chris

I understand that new research shows that too much Vitamin E caused Prostate Cancer.  How much Vitamin E is too much?  As far as I can tell most things contain Vitamin E.

Thanking you.

If you are eating a balanced diet, it is highly unlikely that you will overdose on vitamin E. However, if you take vitamin supplements, you could.

Your daily intake should be 100 - 200mg. I don't think there have been any studies to actually determine how much would constitute an overdose, but 1000mg per day is thought to be the upper limit, beyond which vitamin E could have detrimental effects.

I might add, that if you are eating a balanced diet and have no medical reason to take vitamin supplements, then it might be a waste of money to do so.
