Bala.R asked the Naked Scientists:

Is it possible to draw a face from his/her fingerprints?

What do you think?

A chemical analysis of fingerprint residue can give additional information about an individual, including potentially the sex, race, and details about the diet.

I was curious on whether morphology could be used to determine things like race, but it seems inconclusive.  The best I can tell, there are some statistical anomalies that might point more towards one race than another, but not enough to conclusively make a determination one way or another.

It would seem like one could also capture information such as the gross size of the fingers which should give some information about an individual.
