What keeps milk more fresh, plastic or foil bottle lids?

Hi,

I remember milk bottles with tin foil disposable caps. Now we have plastic containers with screw tops. Does repeatedly putting the cap back on keep the milk fresher longer? Or would we be saving time and energy by throwing away the cap after opening?

my own feeling is that the lid composition is negligible compared with the impact of storage temperature.

Keeping milk cool in the fridge will slow down microbial spoilage as well as well as oxidation; the lid will help by reducing oxygen access and microbial ingress, but compared with what is in there already, the effect would be minimal.

I have both Open and milk with plastic lids on and I have noticed no difference in the time it stays fresh,I believe it just there for a mere convenience having a lid on it.
