picked off an entire nail...
« on: 30/07/2006 08:28:45 »
Recently, when I was picking my little toe nail on my left foot, I got under the nail from both the side and the bottom. In a matter of seconds, half of the nail (including the bottom) was lifted and hanging. Figuring that it would not reintegrate itself if I just left it, I went ahead and tore the rest of the nail off (it pulled up horizontally and from beneath the cuticle). While there is no sign of any nail, the cuticle remains. I know this is bad. I'm keeping it dry and clean to prevent infection, but, will it regrow? Thanks

I kicked off my big toe nail once and yes it will regrow so dont worry.

Also just to let you know how it regrows , as it regrows the nail doesnt grow from the back near the cuticle and move forwards but it grows upwards and forwards over the entire length of the nail at the same time thickening as it does.

Wow thats interesting! My Mother in law had hers removed from an injury , because it got infected, so they took it off, but it grew back funky because of the fungas infection or something, so they are treatng her with some kind of antibiotics and going to remove it again as it grew back super thick and deformed, can't hardly wear her shoe!!! Ouch!!!!....Karen

Apparently nails take six months to regrow:-

of a fingernail after it was removed to treat a broken finger."
