melatonin, that's the bottom line. But doing certain activities like listening to soft music can induce the brain to produce more melatonin.

I wonder if you can "mutate an animal" to require less sleep, what if we can make an animal get enough sleep in just one hour! that would be weird!  Que x-files music :)
