How does sight affect taste?
« on: 28/10/2014 16:17:44 »
Tammy Camacho  asked the Naked Scientists:
I am in the 7th grade and am doing a science project based on the effects of smell and sight on taste. I'm wondering if you have information or know of any studies about how sight affects taste (or sight and smell together).

I would greatly appreciate any help as I am doing my research so that I can write an informed hypothesis and then conduct my project.

What do you think?

Hi Mac! Thanks for getting in touch - The Naked Scientists have done a couple of shows about how sounds, sights and smell affect taste:

newbielink: [nonactive]

newbielink: [nonactive]

There should be a few ideas and experiments in there to get you started - Professor Barry Smith is a good name to start with as well.

Good luck with your project!

Apparently a business opportunity ...

Quote from:

Dining in total darkness, while guided and served by blind people, is a unique experience which will change your view of the world by reversing your perspective.

A sensory journey helping us to re-evaluate our perception of taste and smell.

A social conviviality where darkness kills shyness and brings an open-minded atmosphere.
A human exchange, when, for once, the blind become our eyes to guide us into an intriguing new way of sensing our environment.

I suspect the money they save by keeping the lights off will be offset by the cost of patrons suing them when the fall a*** over t** in the darkness.     [:)]
