Good idea but one medal that gained rank would of done, like getting sergeant stripes.

I LIKE THE IDEA OF GETTING THEM...LOL..I earned them...posting in here all these years...lol.....even though I have been spotty to say the least for a while...never the less it is a nice way to give incentive to members...a friendly little thank you like that, goes a long way...to thank members, not only that, but it allows others who may not be as familiar with the forum, to see members who are..so they would know, if that  person may know how to do something I can't, so perhaps they can show me, or give me an idea, about how something works. Like if a moderator was not available... Perhaps in registration you could have a check box which allows members to choose to have medals, or not, depending on their individual choices. Giving them the option from the start..so that those who check the YES box, will be automatically be filtered into the group recieving medals. Those who check the NO box would not. Those who no longer post, or such, just recieve medals for their previous posts. Leaving everyone with the ability to turn them off. Is that possible to do?.

Not many people have earned both the Eisernkreuz and the Victoria Cross. Not sure how (or even whether) they should be worn alongside the Burma Star and the Royal Lifesaving Society Bronze Award, or if the Nobel Prize takes precedence over Cycling Proficiency, Legion d'Honneur, and my only real medal, for ballroom dancing.

I'd prefer not to dishonour those who have genuinely earned the right to wear decorations.

However the new "Thanks" score looks a more reasonable way of evaluating the rank of contributors.

Is that what they are?
I assumed they were scientific campaign medals. The Defence of Relativity, The Seige of Quantum Mechanics, The Charge of the Electron, etc.
Come on Alan, you have surely earned those for hard fought battles.

I like the idea of a ranking system, the "thanks" is a great addition, but I feel the medals are cluttering, I have no idea what each of them are suppose to symbolize and there are too many, I feel that only having one or two would suffice.

For example, one medal would be enough to show your "rank", such as I am a full member which could be represented by a silver medal, the higher the rank, the nicer the medal. This should of course ultimately lead to a Nobel price.

Nice comments everyone; thanks for the feedback. I' think, on balance, it will be best to decommission the medals for now and then replace them once we have a better, less cluttered solution, which I'll work on.
