How do they color glass when making it ???

How do they color glass when making it ???

 I know about heating it and the sand etc, but how do they color it to get uniform colors??

Karen, the Wikipedia article (see link) has an item on coloured glass, mainly concerning the additives used for making the different colours.

Nowadays, glass is produced (on industrial scale) almost exclusively by continuous melting.  There is a constant flow of molten glass at the exit of the oven, and the additives are added as powder to the molten glass.  It is possible that they increase the temperature in the oven to make the molten glass less viscous.   
In artisanal production they often make ovenloads of deeply colored glass (produced as rods) which are mixed with molten clear glass in order to obtain flame-like or marble-like effects in you vase or other object.
