Do rotten eggs release hydrogen sulphide gas?
« on: 13/03/2016 08:23:37 »
I've heard that when egg rots it releases a foul odour similar to the odour of hydrogen sulphide gas.

But is the odour from rotten eggs really hydrogen sulphide gas, or is it some other chemical with a similar odour?

Is it also true that farts with hydrogen sulphide odour indicates unhealthy body...

Thanks for the replies...

Quote from: Wikipedia
Hydrogen sulfide is the chemical compound with the formula H2S. It is a colorless gas with the characteristic foul odor of rotten eggs
H2S is rotten egg gas. There is a lot of Sulfur in the yolk of an egg.

The human nose is (at least at low concentrations) more sensitive that lead acetate paper.
If an egg only produced a milligram of H2S it would stink.
