In Australia if we combine tools, we can farm the red centre.

Good day, I am thinking that with food shortages, Australia has the greatest opportunity to produce more food crops than any country except maybe Canada. We have the legacy of Israel for turning deserts into farms, and vast tracts of red centre lands and new technologies available or on the way to make water available without rain, we could source a lot of food for India and China and the local markets.

Is this a good idea?

I think it would be better to invest in ways to increase the efficiency of food distribution. Supposedly about 1/3 to 1/2 of all the food produced is never eaten, and just gets thrown away. If we can decrease that to 1/5, that would be more than enough to address any current food shortages.
