Can Money buy Happiness?
« on: 13/12/2016 17:12:21 »
- - MONEY CAN BUY HAPPINE$$ - -

Life is not a box of chocolates or even chewy saltwater taffy
For one must do for themselves, if they ever expect to be happy
But your own personal happiness is not all there is to life
One must also care for others, who dwell in turmoil and strife

You should not be self-centered and only care about yourself
Because the true meaning of life is simply helping someone else
For the only people who possibly think that money can’t buy them happiness
Are the very people who don’t have to live without any food or even less

With so many of God’s needy children dying from starvation each day
By mankind allowing one to go hungry, then it’s God that they betray
People say a prayer to God right before they consume a plentiful feast
And then wonder why God would feed them to the Devil’s hungry beast

Until you figure out the true meaning of life and why you are here
Your soul will live forever tormented and your life will be full of fear
God loves all of his children but can only care for those with a kind heart
Which comes by caring for others and would give humanity a jump-start

When you save the life of a doomed soul and give them undying peace
Your heart will overflow with such joy, then your emotions will release
For you will have figured out that elusive secret so many have long sought
That to save a person’s life is the only true happiness money has ever bought

Always remember that life isn’t a bowl of cherries or even mom's apple pie
And never forget there are so many of God’s children that don’t have to die
If you will put away your selfish greedy ways and care about those in dire need
You will find that money can buy happiness, by using it to do the ultimate deed

Money spent to save a person from starvation will bring about happiness twofold
It will bring your heart true happiness and end hunger pains for that poor soul
And there’s no better way to spend spare change you can easily afford to give
Than to use it to show all the hopeless souls that God cares and truly does live

Could it be, because some people are nice, like on here.  And other people are nasty.

Why is there suffering? Because your god hates you. Occam's rule of theology.

Well, it's a cornerstone to Buddhism if I remember right, to lessen the worlds suffering. There's one historical example I saw on the telly where a guy meditated himself to death trying to lessen the suffering for his community, after a prolonged drought. It's actually a very human thing to do, just consider a soldier scarifying his life for a comrades to be saved, although taken to a new 'height' by Budhism.

That's why Buddhism is the least worst religion - it doesn't invoke a god.

The question still arises, since this is a science forum: did the self-sacrifice relieve the drought, or would it have rained anyway? Time was that we used to sacrifice virgins to ensure a good harvest, but Essex farms are just as productive as any other.

Don't know Allan if there was any rigorous scientific testing of the idea at that time. But reading your last argument reminds me of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haber_process :)
heh.

I think generally speaking, helping people in need does promote happiness in the giver. It does for me anyway and people close to me.

heh.

Standard randomised controlled test of a null hypothesis. Everyone uses artificial fertilisers but you can't sacrifice virgins in Essex.

I thought that freedom of religion was one of the freedoms we enjoy in this happy land ,if my religion calls for the sacrifice of virgins why can I not practice it or is this problem peculiar to Essex

I believe that Alan may be referring to a problem specific to Essex, namely the very low probability of occurrence of the target item in the local population. Source apocryphal, but assumed true by many commentators.

"Can Money buy Happiness?"
I don't know, but,a s a scientist, I can propose an  experiment to try to find out.
Give me lots of money and see if I'm happier.

money buys you things that make you happy.
it buys you things that attract people those who make you happy.
it buys you medicine that makes you healthy which makes you happy.
it buys you cleanness that attract people who make you happy.
