How to remove browser hijacker?
« on: 22/01/2017 06:49:45 »
My Samsung s4 my Chrome browser got hijacked and I finally ended up uninstalling it. I switched to regular Google but  then  it too became hijacked. They direct me sites saying I've won some lottery prize or my battery has been damaged.
One is a site called "clickdothypermobileworld" It won't let you do anything without clicking on some box or just closing everything down. I've googled this and can't find a solution. Tried clearing cache and history and cookies. Any advice?

Try "Reset your browser settings" just in case something (hidden extension?) is persisting from Chrome Browser to Google browser.

However the Hijack/redirect code can be in the operating-system, or the router, rather than in the browser.

If you manage fix the problem, consider installing uBlock-Origin which will lower the odds of getting infected again

Connect device to PC and perform full system scan with AdwCleaner

Thanks for the replies. I got rid of it for about a week after repeatedly clearing data and caches and cookies, or disabling cooking. But it eventually  came back. One thing I find so frustrating is that when I google instructions for how to do things specifically for Samasung S4, the selections on menus on my phone never match the selections in their instructions and I end up randomly clicking on things trying to find what they tell me should be there.

I don't know if it matters, but I can't seem to erase my Google search history.

I have a slight problem with Firefox. It is not the issue about the browser itself as it can normally open. The problem is that the homepage of it is not the default one which is set to Google. Instead, .........MOD EDIT link removed...... appears as homepage. But I completely remove it from computer by resetting browser settings. You can try.

One's Google search history isn't stored on one's computer : it's stored on Google's computers.
You can erase it ... https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/465
but doing that won't make any difference to a hijacked browser.

Your browser is probably infected by some kind of BROWSER HIJACKER due to which your browser's proxy settings are being changed.

There are now two ways by which you can remove that browser hijacker from your browser.

MOD EDIT: Dubious link removed.

The second way to remove that browser hijacker is : 1. by clicking on the settings tab of your browser. 2. Go to extensions. 3. remove the extension which you are not aware of or the one which seems not legit. 4. Go to control panel and check for same and uninstall(if installed). 5. Open the Task Manager and go to services tab and check for the services of that particular thing (if it entered in your system through adware).

note: here you have to search and close many services and even if one is left by mistake the browser hijacker will not be removed.

So my suggestion will be to take the first and the easy step and download the removal tool from the blog.

Thanx,

Ashley

Factory reset and restore, then disable automatic download of messages and updates.

It's a bad idea to disable updates, because many of these address security loopholes, including possibly the one that got your device infected in the first place. I would certainly recommend a factory reset if that is your only option, but then definitely use a clean connection to update the software and / or firmware following the reset and install the most recent slew of patches and upgrades.

I completely agree with Chris. Disabling updates will not help you. On the contrary, you'll keep facing problems. A factory reset with a clean connection will be a better option. I would like to share wonderful link [SPAM ALERT SPAM ALERT] which is relevant to this discussion - "How to remove browser hijacker?"
