Should the pituitary be the first structure to form in a developing baby?
« on: 28/05/2017 23:05:07 »
Fabio has been in touch to ask:

We know that in the Hypophysis [pituitary gland] many hormones are secreted and the mainly one is the growth hormone. If growth hormone has the ability to control the human body growth and it is secreted from the hypophysis, should the hypophysis be the first part of the body that got created in the woman's womb?

What does everyone think?

The placenta is vital to the growth of the baby, so it has to form very early - starting with the trophoblast when the newly fertilized egg is an undifferentiated ball of cells.
