How to increase or improve cognitive neuroimmunity?
« on: 17/05/2018 12:08:17 »
I would like to know how to protect and defend the central nervous system from neuroimmune attacks.

Thank you for any objective input on neuroimmunity and feedback on novel ways to defend/protect cognitive functions of the central nervous system (CNS).   .

If you did science I'd start by asking you to explain the terms you are using.
What are " neuroimmune attacks"?
If you are going to respond (rather than doing the decent thing and  deciding not to waste more bandwidth) please base your reply in actual evinced facts rather than made up dross.

I assume he's talking about this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroimmune_system. Typing "neuroimmune attack" does bring up a few hits from legitimate scientific papers:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2190016/. As best as I can tell, a "neuroimmune attack" is an attack on the central nervous system by the autoimmune system.

neuroimmunity and feedback on novel ways to defend/protect cognitive functions of the central nervous system (CNS)
A few years ago, I heard of a bizarre medical case where a woman suddenly lost her mind, over a period of weeks.

It turned out that she had an ovarian cyst called a teratoma. Teratomas can contain many kinds of bodily tissues, but all scrambled together.

Apparently, this teratoma contained some neurological tissue (normally found only in the Central Nervous System, or CNS); her immune system was triggered by the teratoma to attack her CNS.

Eventually, after a long hunt for the cause, finding and removing the Teratoma allowed her a gradual recovery; today neurologists are aware of this trigger, and know to remove the teratoma promptly, producing rapid recovery.
See, for example: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4688824/

But tk, I think you are largely protected from this form of neuroimmune attack by your male gender.

Interesting input, @evan_au! :)

What about gender-specific neuroimmune-like disorders/markers?

Do you know any case of schizophrenia/psychosis being linked to increased neuroimmune activity?

Thanks! :)

Without trying to make a remote medical diagnosis, I would suggest that there have been links made between schizophrenia and marijuana use.

See a list of known/suspected causes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causes_of_schizophrenia#Cannabis

Including some related to the immune system: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causes_of_schizophrenia#Infections_and_immune_system

@evan_au: Do you mean this: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25876735 ?  ;)

@Bored chemist: I do science sometimes... A neuroimmune attack is simply a coordinated assault to the central nervous system of someone via a pathogen (virus, bacteria, etc) triggering a immune response in the brain of the host.

Not really.
"Testicular teratomas represent almost half of testicular cancers."

What does the coordinating?
If it is some other person then, since nobody would be able to trigger this effect, you are not doing science.
