What are these marks in this rock from the coast in Tampico, Mexico?
« on: 10/07/2018 20:49:34 »
Hi guys,
First I must tell you that I am an accountant and absolutely clueless about fossils, rocks, etc.
This last weekend I visited my hometown Tampico, México, a beach town right in the middle of the Gulf.
The local government did some maintenance recently and basically dumped huge rocks along the promenade to stop the waves (is there a word for that?) I noticed many shapes on the rocks.  Most of them were rather small (from half to 3ish inches) but also some other that were bigger.  The rocks were extracted from Tamuin (112 kms to the west, near the east Sierra Madre).  Took a few pics with my mom's old iphone and I am dying to know what those shapes are.
Please take a look at them and let me know! Super curious about it.
Gracias :)

Appears to be an ancient bioherm or reef of some sort- full of fossil trash. I agree with RD that the one fossil may be crinoid, but I'm not a paleontologist. Where's JimBob when you need him?
