Oh hi "Martin"

I'm a stooge who's desperately in need of some advice about buying a water filter. And I was just thinking to myself "I wonder if there's a thread on the naked scientists forum about tips for buying a water filter?" And lo and behold, knock me down with a feather, there was as well, and just posted today too. Fancy that. What a coincidence.

I bet you're going to come back and give me lots of advice now aren't you?

There, aren't I nice, I saved you the bother of talking to yourself...

Sorry to pour cold (filtered) water on your fire, but please take your spam elsewhere.

Kinda new here, so I'm lost on the "spamming" thing, I assume the spam part was already removed... Anyway, Water filtration IS important no matter what your source... Where I live we drink our toilet water, Our county system of recycling water is so great that Japan sent people over to study it... Everywhere else has lesser water, perhaps, but even with our great county system, the water has to travel through old pipes before we can use it... Water, by nature is our #1 source of minerals, so I'm against things like Reverse Osmosis, because while most bottled water is cleaned that way, the bottlers reAdd the minerals which is something we can't do at home... My solution is a filter that stops Sediment and Chlorine combined with an under counter unit with a filter that stops everything else for drinking... These systems are available everywhere for just a couple hundred dollars... The expense comes in with the replacement filters, basically you should spend about $250 per year to filter the water, $30 filters, 4 times a year... But here's the beauty, not only do you get to drink clean fresh safe water, but the filter saves all your water using items in your house... Chlorine and sediment attacks the copper piping as well as the rubber "gaskets" that keep all your water appliances, faucets, toilets etc from leaking... Good water filtration save not only you, but your home as well... and maybe the costs balance...

Most of us don't do all that.
Most of us still manage.
So doing that is not necessary.

So why are you advocating what is plainly a waste of water?

So you come from hell then rodin ?

Many people in london also drink there toilet water, it is used cleaned and discharged into the rivers, only to be picked up again, many believe this is a major source of estrogen, via the birth control pilletc that is turning men infertile.

I completely agree with you. Therefore, I entrusted the choice and installation of water purification systems to professionals. It's convenient. Because the quality of water varies greatly depending on the place of residence. And a filter that suits someone might be useless to you. Therefore, it is important to choose a filter individually. So I decided that it is better to do it professionals

Whether you need a home water filtration system depends on your living environment. If the water in your area is heavily polluted, it is absolutely necessary to purchase a filtration system. Because it is about the health of a family.
Health is the first place. do you think so?

Hey just joined. I would have to say that in places with limited access to clean water it's nice to have a filter. I use one at home as well even though I have plenty of access

I agree with you that we need to be careful when choosing a whole house water filter. I used some types of filters but I think there is the 30-micron carbon filter that effectively filters out and removes sand, silt, particles, debris, rust, and other sediments. There is also a filter that ais to improve the taste and smell of your water. As such, it will also target and filter out chemicals such as chlorine and hydrogen sulfide. Lastly, there is a 5-micron filter that will ensure extra protection against microscopic bacteria, viruses, and anything that’s left. Because of this, this water filtration system is extremely versatile and convenient to use.

I think a spam filter on anything that has not posted 5000 characters in legible original sentencesmay melp colin a bit, definatley worth the cash. There is grammer, plagiarism checkers, type speed checkers surely this must be a help.

I live in the countryside and owned a well in my garden. I measured the sediment ratio of my well a few days ago and it was high, so I want to buy a sediment well water filter to protect my family members' health. I am looking for a filter that works effectively and has a reasonable price so I decided to buy (SPAM removed). I liked that the filter system can protect the plumbing system. With it, we can prevent the building up of dirt, rust, sediment, and sand. It can also help filter down particles with 50 microns. I also liked that it is designed with a durable lead-free machine head, so you can look forward to long-term use. I also noticed that the sediment filter that can last for up to two years.

I would go with a reverse osmosis water filter. They are very slow but filter a wide range of contaminants; chlorine, chloramine, bad odors/tastes, heavy metals, fluoride, chromium and more. I'm using a filter that comes with it's own storage tank, faucet and water supply connector.

You can easily test if your filter works using a digital tds meter.

Many years ago, I have visited friends in the city of Adelaide (Australia). Their town water had a distinctly muddy taste, and nearly everyone had a filter on the kitchen water supply. Our friends had a big outdoor unit (it wouldn't fit under the sink!).

They told me that every few months they have to wash it out, and it picks up a lot of dirt in that time.

Their town water had a distinctly muddy taste,
Not known for its bottled water then!
I suppose with the right marketing (healthy?) someone would buy it.

How about this?

https://techcabal.com/2018/07/30/startups-increasing-access-to-clean-water-in-africa/

Normally, in a developed country you shouldn't need to worry. If you still do you should take it up with your providers, and you need to check that well before you use it.
