False information on amphibians
« on: 02/08/2020 20:24:31 »
Understand that amphibs are cold-blooded and have no need for Oxygen which is necessary ONLY in the production of heat of warm-blooded animals, fire, rust, etc,.

Plants are thought to transform carbon dioxide into Oxygen but this is impossible.   Through transpiration they do release O² as well as Hydrogen atoms (not gas, Hı which is not-at-all flammable (silk fabric, which is 50% Hı attests to this).  Before you get your hackles up because transpiration supposedly releases water vapor into the atmosphere - take a stroll across the lawn in mid-morning - and then there's the source of Hı for silk worms: LEAVES.

Take a wait and see attitude.   You probably won't hurt anything and can tweak things if required.

Essentially everything you said there is wrong.

I can't tell if you're very poorly educated on science or if you're a troll account...

Ah yes. Amphibians. As observed by Tommy Cooper:

Bloke walks into a bar with a lizard on his shoulder. Points to the lizard and says "A pint for me and a gin for Tiny". Barman says "Why do you call him Tiny? " "Because he's my newt."

Beware, AR, you are trading bullshit with professionals here.

ONLY warm-blooded animals require oxygen.   If you have a frog seal the terrarium and give him some pure Oxygen.  Death will soon follow.   I have an epiphany on a personal level if you know what I mean.

If you are going to criticize a statement which runs contrary to that which you "feel" is reality - first do some research.  It is so much easier to do than trying to pull a foot out of your mouth or other or orifice.

ONLY warm-blooded animals require oxygen.
If that was true, why would frogs have lungs?
Why would people do research on oxygen in amphibia?
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24001722/

Basically, where did you get that absurd idea?

OK, so, it's now time for you to demonstrate that .
Take both feet out of your mouth, or wherever you had put them.

I think he's a troll, but he's so bad he's funny.
Can we keep him as a pet for a while?

ONLY warm-blooded animals require oxygen.

Reptiles are cold-blooded. Reptiles have lungs. Reptiles need oxygen:

https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg14519612-900-why-crocodiles-rarely-come-up-for-air/

Quote
CROCODILES can hold their breath underwater for more than an hour. Researchers in Cambridge have now shown that this ability depends on a tiny fragment of the animal’s haemoglobin the protein that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.

Crocodiles use a waste product of metabolism – the bicarbonate ions formed when carbon dioxide dissolves in water – as the trigger for haemoglobin to unload the oxygen it carries. The more energy the crocodile’s cells burn up, the more carbon dioxide they produce. So the bicarbonate triggering mechanism ensures that large quantities of oxygen are supplied only to the hard-working tissues that need it the most, thus conserving a submerged crocodile’s limited supplies. This efficient system of oxygen allocation, combined with the reptile’s very slow metabolism, explains how it is able to survive underwater for so long.

And there's also this: https://nationalpost.com/news/world/scientists-discover-parasite-worlds-first-animal-that-doesnt-need-to-breathe-oxygen

Pure oxygen is indeed toxic if you breath it for too long. That's why you should give the frog air instead.

So long as he doesn't break the rules, but with comments like, "It is so much easier to do than trying to pull a foot out of your mouth or other or orifice", he's probably not going to last long.
