It used to be thought that sharks don't sleep, but that has been disproven now. So, are there any that don't sleep?

Except for Sheepy and Karen, I doubt it. IIRC experiments have been carried out on creatures such as fish and ants. Although they did not sleep as we know it, there were times when they had very little brain activity. This was classified as sleep.

What is the wildcard (asterisk) supposed to represent - every quarter past the hour, or any quarter past the hour?

(I would guess you were too quick on the shift key, and it should be an '8' [:)]).
