From The Times online:-

Bristol, the Cotswolds and the M4-M5 corridor are likely to experience the worst of the rain this morning before the storms move towards Birmingham and some parts of the South East by late afternoon, according to the Met Office.

I live a stone's throw from the Cotswolds and half-hour's drive from Birmingham [:(]

Rain update.

It's been raining hard constantly most of the night & all morning. At Upton (4 miles from here) they had 1" of rain in 20 minutes. When Sandra got back from taking Calvin to school she said the road from here to Bloxham (Bloxham is only 1 mile away) was getting flooded already.

You remember those photos I posted a couple of weeks back of the flooded fields? Well, we drove past there at about 11:30am and the water level of the river was roughly 6" below the banks. We came back at 12 and it was just starting to overflow. That means it has risen 6" in 30 minutes - and it's still raining hard. Methinks it'll be a lake again before much longer.

Wow Doc.

How much rain did you get before this happened? Because if the ground was already wet it wouldn't be that bad right? You don't want a Flash Flood. That would drown you for sure. We might have got a total of 2 inches and we normally get 10. LoL. They are expecting a 100% loss of corn this year. So no corn on the cob for anyone! LoL.

Schools here closed early today as there was a danger of flooding. However, it hasn't materialised after all. The rain has almost stopped before things got too bad.

It seems that most of the rain fell on the far side of the Cotswolds as to the west & north west of here it was a lot worse.

No, they didn't. But there have been a few songs based on that 1981 George Thorogood classic; most notably Motorhead with "You Better Swim" for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

"Bad To The Bone" itself was based on the Bo Diddley song "I'm A Man" (1955). "Whole Lotta Rosie" by AC/DC (1977) used the same riff.

IT was George Thurgood and teh Desytroyers.

Uh-uh. It was written by George Thorogood in 1981, produced by the Delaware Destroyers and released in 1982 under the name of George Thorogood & The Destroyers.

The Destroyers are:-
Billy Blough
Hank Carter
Michael Lenn (left the band in 1975)
Jeff Simon
George Thorogood

George Thurgood is a totally different beastie. His music is more jazz/classical with a bit of pop thrown in. He's now teaching at the Royal Conservatory on Toronto, Canada.

so are you guys still above water?

Parts of mid & southern England got it pretty bad. A village was flooded with 1.5' of water no more than 10 miles from here but we got off pretty light.

Update.

We didn't get off as light as I thought. Banbury High Street was a river because the Oxford canal, which runs through the town, overflowed. There are lots of houseboats on that canal and the owners are in a bit of a panic as they don't want to be washed onto the land.

2 of the main carparks, an entertainment complex & restaurant, and  the bus station are closed due to flooding.

Those fields where we had the floods last time are much worse than before. The same canal runs alongside them and has burst its banks there also. There's so much water there that the course of the river is now impossible to discern. About 100yds of the road is under water (it's flowing rapidly too) and impassable. We had to turn around and go a different way.

Please do not abuse the Beaver. He is busy in the shrubry trying to dam the Thames at Oxford, as well as all of the canals flowing from the Costwolds. The Idea is to back up enough  water to drown Swinton and Seany with it.

It is a cooperative effort of E & B Enterprises  - Principle Partners Pictured below

Tewkesbury was hit pretty bad, but that's quite a way from here (about 40 miles, I think). But the thing is that it was drainage from the Cotswolds that caused it & they also drain in this direction.

The Cotswolds take 2-4 days to drain and it's estimated that some of the rivers won't peak until later today or tomorrow.

The Thames is in danger of overflowing too and that really would cause havoc.
