two identical particles go in to a bar....
« on: 07/08/2007 20:00:44 »
I've got this vague recollection of reading about an experiment those white coated boffins did on two identical particles.

The separated them and then did bad things to one of them like effecting their spin or some such.  They noticed that the "twin" was effected in the same way at the same time.

Did I dream this or did it really happen?

and what are the implications?

Hi, pete_inthehills & welcome to TNS.

No, you didn't dream it. It's called quantum entanglement.

There are others here who can give a far more detailed description than I can; but, basically, it's what you said. Here's the Wikipedia entry on it...
