Same satellites.  In general, one would expect the satellite to spend more time taking more detailed pictures of areas of greater interest (i.e. metropolitan areas); although it could also be, if they are US satellites, that the US deliberately don't want high quality images of the US for security reasons, but are less concerned about compromising the security of the UK (in Soviet Russia, it was even difficult to get hold of high quality maps as they were seen as a potential aide to any foe that might choose to invade).

Resolution goes up over time, presumably they're gradually updating it. Cambridge (high geek population) has been available at very high res for some time, whereas Ipswich (where I grew up, a rather less tech focused town) is only now getting a higher degree of detail. I rather suspect there's some algorithm that means they prioritise the upgrading of resolution according to which areas of the map get a lot of hits.
Of course, Cambridge is also of interest as a tourist destiation etc, but interestingly Oxford (which can be grouped with Cambridge in many ways, not least the number of tour parties it attracts) was well behind  for a while.

This is where I'm living at the moment.

And this is where I moved from

I sold the house in Suffolk as it was a bit too big for just 1 person.

Incidentally, Ryan, my nearest neighbour was about 1/2 a mile away so I could turn my amps up as loud as I wanted  [:)]

Neil I tried that other link you posted and cannot zoom in close enough to get a clear picture like you all have. I think there is like george said little or few hits so the quality is poor.. LOL

I have tried the 3d and it seems better but I have to play with it as I can't get it to zoom back out a little, its all or nothing.. I have to figure out how to work it. I just downloaded it, but did not register. do you think that will make a difference?

I hope you get to feeling 3d again right away.. You need some sleep it sounds like!

We got the Google street view here. On the news the other day there was an item about it. A man had a broken car parked out on the street, when the google car carrying all the cameras and taking the pictures passed it, a hooded man was trying to open the bonnet. His picture was taken and now he can be seen by everybody around the world, trying unsuccessfully, to break in!
