A 1926 autopsy specimen from a 3 year old boy admitted with respiratory difficulty. It was thought that a foreign body had been inhaled and although bronchoscopy was performed no foreign body was seen in the respiratory tract. The child died from respiratory embarrassment. At autopsy a collar stud was found in the oesophagus, fistulating into the trachea.
