Chronic osteomyelitis of the tibia

A 1925 surgical resection specimen from the London Hospital, comprising a hemisected lower leg including half of the tibia, fibula, adjacent muscles, connective tissue and skin from a case of longstanding chronic Staphylococcal osteomyelitis, for which leg amputation was finally performed. There is extensive multifocal suppuration and chronic abscess formation in the upper three quarters of the tibia with erosion of the bone with the formation of sinuses leading to the skin surface.
