A 1911 autopsy specimen from a man aged 40 years, who was admitted under Dr. Shaw for pain in the left loin. He had had syphilis fourteen years previously. On admission there was marked pulsation in the epigastrium,a dull area to the left of the spine on percussion and breath sounds over the left lung were diminished. Three days later he suddenly vomited bright red blood and died within seven minutes.
