Part of a surgical amputation specimen from an 82 year old man. An aneurysm of the popliteal artery had been discovered 21/2 years prior to admission. He had been troubled with pain in left leg for some time and one month before admission the leg suddenly became limp and powerless. He was treated with anticoagulants and papaverine with no improvement and amputation was consequently performed.
