weird feeling, just me?
«

I'm begining to notice a pretty weird thing
sometimes, I suddenly feel top optimistic, top appetite and extreme happiness that I almost say "LIFE IS GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWD"
*not talking about orgasm
*
but that feeling lasts only for 3-5 seconds
it happens once every two months, and it's random
cuz sometimes, I was feeling pretty depressed then suddenly that feeling just kicked in but it waned out after 5 seconds leaving me depressed again.
it happened with me many many times throughout my life
I didn't really care about it til lately when it occured while I was in extreme depression, just for 5 sec tho -.-
anybody experience that or just me?

Hi Underdog,
I'm not a professional psychiatrist/psychotherapist/counsellor etc etc..... but it seems to me , that what you may be experiencing, could be identified as a mild form of bipolar depression.
When you say it can happen at random times, does that apply when you are only depressed or when life is as per your happy norm ? If it only happens when you are feeling so low then it's just a characteristic of that type of depression.
To be honest, in MY opinion , I would be more concerned about the depression rather than the brief highs.
It's worth noting that we all get depressed, I very often suffer a similar event like you..
However, I think it's a valid point that you mention twice that it has happened during depression.
please do not worry about it...in My opinion...I think it's a natural symptom of the mood swing tendency that come with certain types of depression.
What about the rest of the family...?..any signs of depression there ?...
If concerned deeply about it...it's worth a trip to your doctor for a chat and maybe a referral...but the fact that you recognise this in yourself is a good indication that to all intents and purposes ..you are OK and these brief mood swings are normal...OK ?

hi neilep,
thanks for replying
not really, it happens usually when I'm in "normal" or "happy" mood
that's why I didn't care about it cuz I thought it's normal as I'm 'problem-less'
but it felt pretty weird and unexpected when it happened during my
deep depression, and it felt even more weird after it waned out cuz
it didn't affect my mood like at all? just for few seconds
and I got my appetite back for only 3 seconds then lost it again
y'know what um saying?
yea the rest of the family ^^
my mom is always depressed and she 'can't live' without depression pills, says she.
...yea it's something in the family as my little sister is depressed too
sometimes I go to bed with a pretty good mood
but when I wake up, I'm pretty depressed again :S
always when I wake up I get my depression back
maybe I should just stop sleeping?
:P
it reminds me of Freddy Kruger

A feeling of being absolutely content?
Sounds OK to me.

I agree with Neilep:-
"
What Are the Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder?
Bipolar disorder causes dramatic mood swings—from overly
"high"
and/or irritable to sad and hopeless, and then back again, often with periods of normal mood in between. Severe changes in energy and behavior go along with these changes in mood. The periods of highs and lows are called episodes of mania and depression.
Signs and symptoms of mania (or a manic episode) include:
Increased energy, activity, and restlessness
Excessively "high," overly good, euphoric mood
Extreme irritability
Racing thoughts and talking very fast, jumping from one idea to another
Distractibility, can't concentrate well
Little sleep needed
Unrealistic beliefs in one's abilities and powers
Poor judgment
Spending sprees
A lasting period of behavior that is different from usual
Increased sexual drive
Abuse of drugs, particularly cocaine, alcohol, and sleeping medications
Provocative, intrusive, or aggressive behavior
Denial that anything is wrong
A manic episode is diagnosed if elevated mood occurs with three or more of the other symptoms most of the day, nearly every day, for 1 week or longer. If the mood is irritable, four additional symptoms must be present.

hmmm..
I'm only depressed lately
well I've never been depressed that much in my life
I've been experiencing the 5 sec thing for years now, before I even feel any type of depression, well most likely when I'm about to play a game. (yea um 17 years old btw
)
and as I mensioned before it happens only once per two months, randomly
Bipolar Disorder huh? hmmm..
Signs and symptoms of mania (or a manic episode) include:
Increased energy, activity, and restlessness
Extreme irritability
Racing thoughts and talking very fast, jumping from one idea to another
Distractibility, can't concentrate well
Little sleep needed
Unrealistic beliefs in one's abilities and powers
Poor judgment
Spending sprees
A lasting period of behavior that is different from usual
Increased sexual drive
(Decreased sexual drive)
Abuse of drugs, particularly cocaine, alcohol, and sleeping medications
Provocative, intrusive, or aggressive behavior
Denial that anything is wrong (yea, I just forget all my problems :S)
Let's take this one alone:
Excessively "high," overly good, euphoric mood
YES
sometimes
when I'm deeply depressed I suddenly start laughing at anything, and forgetting all my problems (mania)
but it's not as happy as the 5 seconds I talked about before, and this one lasts til I go sleep
well anyways:
Signs and symptoms of depression (or a depressive episode) include:
Lasting sad, anxious
, or empty mood
Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed,
including sex
Decreased energy, a feeling of fatigue or of being "slowed down"
Difficulty concentrating
, remembering, making decisions
Restlessness or irritability
Sleeping too much
, or can't sleep
Change in appetite and/or unintended
weight loss
or gain
Chronic pain or other persistent bodily symptoms that are not caused by physical illness or injury
Thoughts of death or suicide
, or suicide attempts
add to that
Feeling that my brain is on fire, I just can't stop thinking
looks like um needing a hug..
well, thnx anyways guys I really aprreciate it
and looks like I'm the only one who's getting the 5 sec thing as it's different than the one I'm experiencing now
