AI programs / brains using neural networks back propagation might be able at some point, to think in a similar way we do.We are build of cells that are sensitive to the environment and need constant supply of energy. Because of these we have lots of instincts like feeling hungry, thirsty, cold, hot, hunting and many others that enables us to survive. These makes us humans. The ultimate instinct is the survival instinct which is the most important. Genetic natural selection is the way we got all of these instincts. We if go back to AI neural networks we can see that we can program a network without needing to implement any of these unless we want to create an android. Even if you implement them, the AI brain will eventually use its judgement to overcome these instincts as humans do. The advantage of a AI brain will be that it will be able to think without getting tired or bored. It would be interesting to see if the survival instinct will naturally if not implemented occur or it will be a simply ignored by the AI brain.By the way humans can overcome even the survival instinct, when sacrificing for higher causes. Sacrificing for an ultimate cause is in fact the ultimate instinct because it enables the hole group or even specie to survive. Again these are results of natural selection. The tragedy is in religion, because occasionally people can also ignore their own survival instinct and sacrifice for an illusion.A specialist in this field, however would give a better answer.
