This one is interesting, from a lot of perspectives, one is Saudi Arabia and those Gulf states economical situation, able to afford those imports, basing it on fossil exploit revenues. Without those there would be a water and food shortage. Another is the link between that and wars. You will see a lot more of those as global warming, topsoil, groundwater and water shortages accelerates. There are other aspect too, but those two are quite sufficient. Although they create a third loss.
Food, water, and shelter. And where will you run?

What it means? Well, in this case it's about your choices, playing this game to its end, or changing it. Changing it, even if you don't really want, should still give us a chance. Keeping it is an extinction event coming as far as I see. That's one side of intelligence, looking at alternatives, not always choosing the easiest one. Survival isn't about a healthy bank account and a constantly growing GDP, it's about keeping our basics intact.

There exist this pragmatic view of a future, preparing for the worst. It's not about the study above, but about you. Once you think you know how that future will look, and if enough of you think the same way, you will force it.

The other way to see it, is about a real democracy, and what that one would chose. A real majority.

We're outside Earths boundaries today, and we're getting worse.
