If that did happen why not enjoy a swim while you're there? I believe that was the spirit of the saying, even if you're up sh1t creek you may as well try and make some fun of it.
I thought Bob Hopes quote was "You can tell when you are getting old when a broad mind and a narrow waste line exchange places."
