Some people have been helped with antidepressants in POIS by slowing down libido.
Day 1 for me and very few flu-like symptoms (-90%). I'm confident of my strategy to controle inflammation. Something interesting that I notice is the reduction of acne, especially Pois acne. My skin is definitely much more clean. I think it might be a sign of reduced inflammation. I had moderate exercice today without joint or muscle pains. I'm optimistic even if all is not perfect. I need to reduce stress and cortisol and avoid the "jet-lag effect".
Hi my name is Aaron and I am new to this forum. I am 22 years old and have suffered from pois syndrom as early as 8 years old. My symptoms are really severe I experience: -muscle tension headache for several days (a feeling almost like theres no blood in my head and when the muscles relax I get chills down my spine that give me spasms)-complete loss of concentration (I can't stop myself from daydreaming can't focus I feel like I have to strain myself severely to opperate at the same intelligence and competency I normally do)-loss of IQ (my problem solving skills, relfexes, general intelligence just crashes. My brain goes from engineering genius to a baked teenager. I have trouble finding words and I sometimes say the opposite word of what I wanted to say.)-loss of the sense of hunger or thirst-extreem mood swings and personality changes(I have had episodes in the past due to pois syndrom so severe the only way I could cope with what I was feeling for no reason at all I had to punch the floor with my fists untill they bled and the pain was a relief. I become very lethargic and tired)-short term memory loss(the chemical changes my body go through because of it cause my short term memory to be unstable which is a pain in the butt when you are a college student taking classes like calculus and physics)-fever like symptoms(my head and ears feel very hot even though they actually are not and I notice I can think more clearly and feel more relaxed if it is cold out)-become easily stressed out and and nervous Is there any hope? has anyone figured this out because I don't know how much longer I can stand living with this defect []

Vandemolen, I also have depression and am very tempted to take an anti-depressant for a few months but I always want to try other things before. Since we're so close to have the new study, maybe the new treatment for POIS will help a lot for that... Also you won't know which one is working if you want to take both treatments at the same time.
Hi Pablo,Do you think a stressful sexual event caused your POIS?
monkeboy : + treatment with testosterone seems to have an constant effect which is not typical for other medical solutions which are less and less effective as the time passes.
Yes I do think a stressful event is at the source of POIS for me. My sex life was excellent up to an extremely stressful specific event. Then it took about 2 months to sink into full blown POIS and has remained present at various degrees since then. For me POIS has to do with hormonal imbalance whether it is from a "natural" deficiency in testosterone or following a burnout (with the large increase of cortisol followed by very low cortisol), other psychosomatic issues (physical symptoms caused by psychological factors) or physiological imbalances following an illness, etc. There are many possible causes but it all amounts to a hormonal imbalance. The solutions then would have to do with steering one's organism towards hormonal balance. I believe that can be done with various tools, some better than others for specific cases: medications, herbal preparations, acupuncture, meditation, some type of exercises, food choices, psychotherapy, sexual habits and behavior, lifestyle, stress management, etc. When we get to the point where we understand the mechanism behind POIS we will be able to elaborate various protocols to help and support POIS sufferers. The lucky ones here might be those who have POIS as a result of some stressful sexual incident. Man if you think that that's all you have.... go for it!
Unfortunately, I for one can say, that no stressful event is any were near the root of my POIS. I would LOVE to be able to imagine otherwise.
I don't know if anyone else has also done this or if other people get the same muscle tension headache from pois that I do the feeling like a towel is tightly wraped around the back of your skull but I have found that blowing cool air through your hair such as a fan or a vent or even driving with your window rolled down can greatly reduce the muscle tension in the occypital muscles I believe they are called at the base of the skull. I have also found one thing that seems to drastically reduce pois symptoms almost completely but it would be a rather difficult thing to apply. I have noticed that after doing something really scary for instance I am afraid of heights so when I do things like jumping into the lake from high ledges and rock climbing my symptoms go away so is a blast of adrenaline a fix it for pois? Anything else I have come up wtih to help myself pretty much the same stuff everyone does hi protien food, rigorous excercise, doing things that require a lot of focus or attention like video games or reading.
Not completely sugar free : I try to take only sugar with low glycemic index. High glycemic index food increases TNF-Alpha and some other inflammation markers. This strategy has reduced my Pois symptoms a lot.Anyway, I eat sugar sometimes like pastry [8D]Fruit are ok but junk food should be reduced (soda, cooks sweets)--Day 1 for me and no flu-like symptoms. I think I have under-estimated the role of fats in the inflammation cascade. I have reduced "bad fats" (butter, sunflower oil...and bacon []-I love bacon!) and increased "good fats" (fish, colza margarine, olive oil, wallnuts...). I've reduced dairy products and take more soja milk. I also eat more vegetables. It's not easy to balance. I don't want to talk too quickly but it seems to be another step forward.I took my usual anti-inflmmatory stuff : vitamin C and D, fish, zinc, curcuma/pepper... but I think fats made the difference.
