I have been thinking of doing a little bit of blacksmithing at home maybe just having a go at knife or fire tool making I have an anvil just a small one 110 pounds but I need a small forge fire. Now the big question is where to source the steel well I think I have the answer. Any car or truck wrecker will have the best steel on hand SPRING STEEL this steel can be very versatile as it can be tempered or hardened to the desired level of performance that is required. The art of blacksmithing has fallen to modern day casting and improved fabrication technics. I miss the day of cold mornings and raging coke and diesel fires in the railway workshops and the bashing of steam hammers. Maybe I will just leave it as a memory. Anyone had a go at forging before.
