Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / relative motion and theory of relativity

I wish to entertain a discussion on relative motion and the theory of relativity. The players involve two participants and a trolley that can move a ½ c and can make marks one meter apart when at rest. Can we hold that theoretical discussion without worrying about how the marks are made, or without worrying about the simultaneity problem?
The simultaneity problem being, as I understand it and probably erroneously, that the marks were made at the same time according to who, or according to what frame of reference.
Before I broach the details of this theoretical experiment, I would like to know if there is a reason why can cannot even seriously entertain it.
