New Theories / Re: Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS)

I decided to try saw palmetto extract that was mentioned in this thread. I've now been taking it 320 mgs per day for a month and I'm continuing with the same dose. Initially I had a side effect of some kind of skin changes in my hands; the skin would get dry and cut very easily (small slightly bleeding wounds would appear). This lasted for about few weeks and has gone since.
My POIS symptoms have been progressively diminished and my mood and feeling of being in health have gotten better. There is nothing else I've changed with my lifestyle apart from this supplement.
It's also a major source of estrogen, rather like fenugreek. I intend to give saw palmetto a try myself at some point.

There has been plenty of talk about hormones on this topic which I haven't been following. But I think it is interesting that saw palmetto is supposed to inhibit the forming of DHT, dihydrotestosterone. I wonder, could this have something to do with POIS? At least on my part, it seems that saw palmetto reduces the POIS symptoms significantly.
I took Finasteride for a few months, which most definitely inhibits the formation of DHT. However, it didn't do anything to relieve my POIS symptoms. I'm not saying that your theory is wrong, just that my own experience doesn't support it.
