Also, they're particles.  The W and Z are associated with what's called the weak nuclear force, which we don't really see much of outside of the nucleus of atoms.  These have been detected in experiments.  The Higgs boson is a theoretical particle that is associated with what's called the "Higgs field."  This is the thing that gives particles mass.  If it exists, then we should be able to find a particle associated with it, called the Higgs particle.  No one has found conclusive evidence for it yet, though.

There are.  But in order to be confident that they've found something new, physicists require a 5-sigma level of confidence.  This means they've seen enough potential Higgs particles that they're 99.99994% sure they're seeing something new.
