Hi Everybody--
I just received a note from Cconfucius about the upcoming Waldinger research papers. This is exciting news.
As some of you may remember, my primary health issue is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), and POIS is secondary to that. Recently CFS has been in the news again as well, due to breakthroughs in research on that front.
Last October (2009), researchers at the Whittemore Peterson Institute (in conjunction with Cleveland Clinic and the National Cancer Institute) discovered the XMRV retrovirus (Xenotropic Murine Leukemia Virus Related Virus) in 67 of 101 blood samples of CFS patients they studied. XMRV was also found in about 4% of healthy controls. The findings (by Lombardi, Ruscetti, Mikovits, et al) came out in the prestigious journal of Science. http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/1179052
Just two days ago the PNAS (FINALLY!) published a new research paper by Alter and Lo that has pretty much replicated the XMRV findings! http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/24/health/research/24fatigue.html?_r=2
Judy Mikovits of WPI explains the Alter and Lo findings here.
News had leaked back in June about Harvey Alter's (of NIH) and Shyh Ching Lo's (of FDA) work, but their paper was delayed by the usual CDC political shenanigans. It turns out that the CDC had conducted its own XMRV study (using the wrong cohort and questionable procedures) and had gotten negative XMRV findings, so (as usual) they interfered and did their damnedest to delay publishing of the Alter/Lo PNAS paper. I can't tell you how thrilled everyone is now that the paper is published. It will bring more attention, research and treatment possibilities to those who suffer from CFS.
Anyone who has CFS as well as POIS will be able to find additional info if they just google.
I look forward to more info about the upcoming Waldinger research on POIS.
All the best to you, GW
