Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / How do you explain Quantum Entanglement?

I was trying to explain Entanglement to a non-scientist.
I used an analogy I came across many years ago. I have a pair of socks behind my back, one green and one blue. I hide one in a draw. I reveal the one I have to an observer; instantly he will know what the other sock is.
Is this as good as it gets? Are there any good ideas that can be explained in layman's terms?
