The possible outcomes are greater than or smaller than
Measurement can not determine whether two A4 pages are the same thickness.
A very precise measurement, using 1 part 1000 mm, you can determine if page A, thicker than shelf B.
Even calculation can not determine equality.
Equality is determined by intuition combined with symmetry
