It is a type of wheat based substance that Semolina comes from as well.

It's cassava, a staple foodstuff in a large part of the 3rd world - especially Africa & India. Tapioca is made from the root.

"Leave it to Beaver!" He is right!! we called it frog egg puding as children. My Aunt made it every Chrstmas eve! I hated it... I don't even remember what it tasted like. I should try it again as an adult...its probably just fine!

You can get cassava crisps (chips in the US). They are actually quite nice once you get used to them.

They are very popular in Indonesia. There, they are called Ceriping Singkong.
