How many megapixels do we see in?
« on: 28/09/2009 10:30:03 »
Chris Baldwin  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hello again,

I was admiring a fine photo a colleague of mine had taken, and a question sprung to mind.  Digital cameras are measured in megapixels - my question is how many megapixels would be needed for a picture to be completely "lifelike".  Or, another angle to this would be, how many megapixels do we see in?

Thanks, and keep up the fantastic podcasts!

Chris

This is a very subjective question...

What is the properties/attributes of "life like"?

The resolution of the human eye would be about 576 megapixels (according to newbielink:http://www.clarkvision.com/imagedetail/eye-resolution.html [nonactive]).

Now does anyone know the highest resolution from a camera.  The ordinance survey cameras are 120 megapixels, still a long way off 576.
