Technology / Could fire-retardant mats be used to combat bush fires?
« on: 12/02/2009 02:21:13 »
Metaphorically:Why catch fish with a spear, when a (Japanese drift net)fishing trawler is more efficient?
Why not use fire retardant mats around 3 Meters high that can be rolled out off a special storage spindle using a farm vehicle when front sections are moving over flattish grass terrain,Then the vehicles can race around after the/any patch fires that are from jump.
The idea is to smother it by either rolling it over the front line serially in a line from a starting point on the fire front(unbroken line) not wherever its sim-ply been placed after roll-out on the front.
Another method perhaps would be to have a system like bird trappers nets, of a special pin rammer and 3 meter tall stake pin to hang the long 3 meter tall mat on, then drop it on the front as it reaches up against the mat.
Mats like that could be air dropped ready for use on their spindle(axel)with their stakes and the truck/trucks could ready them.
The trucks could be used more for jumping from spot fire(those are set off by floating burning debri) to spot fire until that section of front over that type of land terrain (mainly grass) is out. [xx(]
